AND ALSO THE TREES have a second cassette tape of demos they're spreading around in hopes of a record deal, or at least a few gigs. The tape is titled "From Under The Hill," and includes these original tracks: "So This Is Silence," "The Tease The Tear," "Out Of The Moving Life of Circles," "Impulse Of Man," "Midnight Garden," "Talk Without Words." The first three songs on the cassette were produced by Robert Smith of the Cure, along with Mike Hedges. The others were produced by the band themselves. And Also The Trees have been together since 1979. The lineup remains; Justin Jones on guitars, Simon Huw Jones on vocals, Steven Burrows on bass and Nick Havas on drums. Robert Smith is credited with having "discovered" them, hence their support of The Cure in November of '80. Justin explained in Melody Maker that, "The Cure were setting off on a tour and they wanted to find a different support band for every different night - which we thought was a brilliant idea. We sent a really old tape off, not expecting to hear back from them, but they contacted us and asked us to join them. Then, after the tour, they threw a party and asked their favorite support bands to play, and we were on the list." This ultimately led to And Also The Trees being asked to do a whole tour with The Cure - including three nights at the Hammersmith Odeon. "It was terrifying", Simon laughs, "Us country lads being plunged into that kind of place. The best thing was that there were no back-handers or hype or buy-ons involved."

Thank you to George Gimarc, of the Post Punk Diary: 80 - 82, for supplying this.
